Great novel if you love novels with a broken hero then this for you. This book is on my favorites list. It is one I read overall the time. Draven is a warrior, whose dad beat and did horrible things to him as a boy, to train him not to have any feeling, and be the best warrior he can be. However before his father killed his mom, his mom taught him about love and protecting others. He likes to be alone and only tolerates his brother Simon.
He is basically a berserker, and doesn't trust that he might not go in a rage and kill someone. Emily's father saw his wife and two daughters die in child birth. He is overly protective and won't let his remaining daughters marry. She is now about 22 and has decided she will find someone and get married and have kids before it is too late. She will force her father hand if she has to.
When Emily gets assigned to Draven's ward because someone is attacking Draven's land and Emily's father's land, and making it seem to each of them that the other is doing it. The king is sick of the fighting and has demanded Emily's father to hand her over for a year, and since Draven only holds his honor as the most important thing in his life, then he has to promise not to hurt Emily of take her virginity.
Unfortunately for Draven, Emily is determined that Draven will be her husband.
